Elementary Number Theory
This is a tour through elementary number theory, of the type a student might need in a serious secondary school mathematics competition. The fundamental theorem of arithmetic, Fermat's little theorem, Euler's phi function and the Euler-Fermat theorem are all discussed, as is the inclusion-exclusuion principle
and the Chinese remainder theorem. Two hard problems are discussed in detail.
Presenter and authors
This DVD is presented by Dr Geoff Smith of the University of Bath. He has been the UK leader at the International Mathematical Olympiad since 2002. The co-author of the script is Dr Ceri Fiddes who is Head of Department at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, England. She was the UK deputy leader at the IMO 2006 in Slovenia and IMO 2007 in Vietnam.
Licences
This material is extremely compact, and we do not expect it to be viewed at a single sitting. Rather an able student will want to watch a short section of it, and then do relevant exercises downloaded from the Highperception home page, perhaps during the course of a week.
The price given above is for a single user licence. If you need a licence for your school, indicate this when you put it in your basket. The price of a school site licence is only double that of a DVD with a single user licence.
DVD viewing
This DVD is designed for viewing on a computer screen. If you want to try to view it on a TV, see the link marked `details' in the Highperception home page.
